Relata de manera detallada una amplia perspectiva sobre c\u00f3mo la medicina mexicana abord\u00f3 el alcoholismo, sus avances y limitaciones a finales del siglo XIX y principios del siglo XX. Tambi\u00e9n describe los procesos hist\u00f3ricos que se generaron en la constituci\u00f3n y desarrollo de las interpretaciones y acciones de los m\u00e9dicos respecto a la causalidad, diagn\u00f3stico, atenci\u00f3n y prevenci\u00f3n del alcoholismo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Los m\u00e9dicos, al patologizar este padecimiento en t\u00e9rminos cient\u00edficos \u2013sin negar la visi\u00f3n del mismo como desorden y \u201clacra social\u201d\u2013, contribuyeron a legitimar a trav\u00e9s de la ciencia las ideas negativas que los sectores sociales dominantes ten\u00edan de las clases bajas urbanas.
