Objeto de m\u00faltiples investigaciones e interpretaciones, influy\u00f3 de manera decisiva en los trabajos de los primeros historiadores y cronistas novohispanos, como el jesuita Juan de Tovar y el franciscano Juan de Torquemada, y en estudiosos decimon\u00f3nicos como Manuel Orozco y Berra y el propio Fernando Ram\u00edrez, en cuya memoria se le dio nombre al documento, y constituye una pieza central en la discusi\u00f3n en torno a la existencia de la existencia de la llamada Cr\u00f3nica X \u2014una hipot\u00e9tica fuente documental primigenia, anterior al\u00a0Ram\u00edrez\u00a0y a otros c\u00f3dices del siglo XVI\u2014.
