Muchos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, el texto pas\u00f3 a manos del erudito novohispano Carlos de Sigu\u0308enza y G\u00f3ngora, quien le llam\u00f3\u00a0Compendio hist\u00f3rico de los reyes de Tetzcoco y lo don\u00f3 a los acervos de las instituciones educativas de la Compa\u00f1\u00eda de Jes\u00fas. Sin embargo, en los a\u00f1os en los que se cre\u00f3 la Rep\u00fablica Mexicana, el manuscrito fue enviado a Londres. Su consulta fue limitada. Incluso la edici\u00f3n que revis\u00f3 el historiador Edmundo O\u00b4Gorman se bas\u00f3 en algunas copias existentes del documento. A partir de 2014, el INAH coloc\u00f3 en internet la digitalizaci\u00f3n de este manuscrito tras su compra en el Reino Unido, como parte de uno de los tres libros empastados a los que se denomin\u00f3 C\u00f3dice Chimalpahin.
