La presente investigaci\u00f3n se ocupa de un hecho hist\u00f3rico de la pen\u00ednsula de Yucat\u00e1n en el per\u00edodo colonial: la fundaci\u00f3n, el desarrollo y el declive de la misi\u00f3n franciscana de San Carlos de Campeche en el siglo XVII. En el conflictivo contexto social de la regi\u00f3n, habitada por indios mayas rebeldes, resaltan los cehaches (ind\u00edgenas infieles) y dos personajes: el custodio fray Crist\u00f3bal S\u00e1nchez y el batab Juan Yam. Esta nueva edici\u00f3n, actualizada con informaci\u00f3n nueva sobre los planteamientos jur\u00eddicos de la Custodia, nos muestra que en un inicio estuvo dedicada a San Antonio de Padua. Aunque cambi\u00f3 de nombre, la respuesta de los mayas fue la misma.<\/em><\/p>\n
