Abstract: The article analyzes the spectacular launching in 1974 of the April 19th Movement (M-19), the main urban guerrilla group in Colombia’s history, and its impressive results in the mass media. The author reviews the background of the action through the group’s internal documents, as well as its ideological and political strategy. The core of the article is a deconstruction of how the most powerful Colombian newspapers observed the surprising issue, in order to confirm the major success of the group’s launch.
