Resumen: La Exposición de Arte Popular de 1921 representa no sólo la vinculación entre
arte y poder en México, al haber sido realizada con motivo de los festejos del Centenario de la consumación de la Independencia, sino también la posibilidad de transformar las Bellas Artes de las academias a partir de la relación con las artes populares, inaugurando
en este sentido la “vanguardia histórica” mexicana, gracias a tres de su promotores:
Roberto Montenegro, Jorge Enciso y el Dr. Atl. De ahí la relevancia de recuperar más ampliamente esta Exposición dentro de una nueva concepción del arte.
Abstract: The Folk Art Exhibition of 1921 represented the link between art and power
in Mexico, because it was held in conjunction with the Centennial of Mexican Independence celebrations, while it offered the possibility of transforming the Fine Arts known from the
academies based on a relationship with folk art, heralding in this way the Mexican “historical avant garde” trumpeted by three of its promoters: Roberto Montenegro, Jorge Enciso, and Dr. Atl. Hence, the importance of this exhibition is brought into clearer focus within a new conception of art.
