Resumen: A partir de la multicitada fotografía de Emiliano Zapata vestido de charro, con banda de general maderista, con fusil, cananas y sable, se analiza el quehacer metodológico de aquellos investigadores que, de un modo u otro, se han acercado a esa icónica imagen. Así, con pretexto de una fotografía, nos permitimos adentrarnos no en un tema monográfico, sino en la manera de escribir la historia desde las fuentes visuales. De este modo, sumamos interpretaciones, coincidencia y divergencias, que son, todas ellas, la materia prima para la cocina del historiador.

Abstract: From the oft-cited photograph of Emiliano Zapata dressed as a charro, a traditional Mexican horseman, with the pro-Madero general’s sash, rifle, cartridge belts, and sable, the text analyzes the methodological work of researchers who in one way or another have approached this iconic image. The pretext of this image allows us to explore not the subject of a monograph, but rather the way history is written on the basis of visual sources. Thus, we add interpretations, points of agreement and divergence, which as a whole are the ingredients for the historian’s kitchen.
