Resumen: Una visión de la Constitución de 1857 que preste atención a la enconada pugna decimonónica entre quienes habían pertenecido durante generaciones al grupo dominante y que, además, tenían abundantes intereses económicos y políticos, y quienes anhelaban
un cambio libertario e igualitario, puede ayudar a entender las dificultades que tuvo la sociedad para ocuparse de las garantías que articulan el desarrollo de la ciudadanía
en nuestro país.

Abstract: A point of view in the Constitution of 1857 that pays attention to the festering nineteenth-century struggle between those who for generations had belonged to the dominant group and also had abundant economic and political interests and those who
yearned for libertarian and egalitarian change can help us understand the difficulties
that society faced in the guarantees that articulated the development of the citizenship
in México.
